Meanwhile, the best of all possible words, completely appropriate, mellifluous and of unimpeachable credentials, goes a-begging. The word is Uranian, from the Greek word for heavenly, identified with the sky-god Uranus, first ruler of the universe and two genera-
From this, scholarly German homosexuals, during the great days of the German homosexual renaissance, derived the word uranian to refer to themselves (In colloquial German it came out urning). For many decades this word was used in the works of the great sexologists. In recent decades it has passed into oblivion.
It's about time Uranian was revived, certainly for organizational use and quite possibly, in addition, as a charming, stigma-free, confusion-free term for homosexual.
